The Gibson Les Paul Standard 2017 T benefits from several groundbreaking updates. The new Ultra-Modern weight relief is Gibson USA’s new technique for a lighter guitar with enhanced resonance and sustain. A truly beautiful AAA Flamed Maple top, saluting the finest ’50s Bursts plus the new Blueberry Burst finish for 2017. An asymmetrical slim-taper neck profile is fast, comfortable, modern. The classic controls feature push-pull switching on all four knobs for coil tapping on both pickups, a pure bypass and the “Peter Green mod” Phase Reverse on the neck tone knob for authentic Gibson sounds, amazing versatility. The most noticeable visual difference to the 2016 model is the pickup selector switch surround has gone.
The Gibson Les Paul Standard T 2017 – as the name suggests – keeps to the special-sauce specs that have made the Les Paul Standard legendary & iconic for the last 60 years or so. All the T guitars have a regular top nut, classic neck width and manual tuners. Again, the classic Les Paul pickguard is an optional mounted accessory.
The Ultra-Modern weight relief on the 2017 Les Paul Standard T means the average body weight is 4 lbs 6.7oz (2.01 kg) compared to the Modern weight relief on the 2016 body of 5 lbs 6.3oz (2.44 kg) – a reduction of 17.6% by our calculations. The neck is also lighter at 1 lbs 2oz (0.51kg) down from 1 lbs 4oz (0.56kg) which is 9% lighter.
