The original Univox Hi-Flier Phase 4 model was introduced in 1977. It was the last in the Hi-Flier series that began in 1968. The new Eastwood Hi-Flyer Phase 4 is a dead-on replica of the original slim-line body and neck profile. It is fitted with new Eastwood Phase 4 humbuckers, has a 3-way switch with single volume and tone controls and a fully adjustable wraparound bridge. This was one of the few Hi-Flyer models that had a maple fretboard, and is one of the rarest of the vintage UNIVOX models.
A Hi-Flyer was used by Kurt Cobain in the Nirvana “Heart Shaped Box” video. The song was released as the first single from the group’s third and final studio album, In Utero, in 1993.
